Bhopal: New star ratings which is now proposed by the union government for next cleanliness survey may threaten Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) seven stars rating. The workshop focused on highlighting the parameters which are required for a garbage free city under the Swacch Bharat mission.
The parameters, which were proposed in the workshop, held on Thursday about garbage free city, the state capital seems to be fulfilling none. The basic components for the seven star rankings as proposed in the workshop include door-to-door waste collection and source segregation.
However, here we can see waste dumped in the landfill sites in unsegragated form which indicates that the waste segregation is still a distant dream for the civic body. The heaps of garbage, which is also a basic parameter, can be seen everywhere including Adampur Chawani and Bhanpur Khanti.
On the other hand, we can also see heaps of waste at the public places including parks and hospitals. The parameters of garbage free city also include source segregation of garbage in the city. However, the BMC has not been able to dump segregated waste at the landfill site Adampur Chawani.
The basic parameters of fetching the ratings include, door-to-door waste collection, segregation at the sources itself, cleanliness at public places and other areas, arrangements of dust bins, scientific disposal of waste, cleaning of nullahs etc. However, the basic requirements are still missing for the city.
The work of waste disposal at Bhanpur Khanti has not been started yet while the work of scientific disposal of waste is not initiated at Adampur Chawni area as well. The two sites are the worst affected areas where the waste is dumped in unsegregated form. The unsegragated waste at Adampur Chawni clearly states that the the waste segragation is limited to houses only and that too in very few areas.
