MLAs’ expulsion from Assembly: Congress leaders to meet Speaker on June 11 in Telangana

HYDERABAD: With Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar being unhappy about the alleged “inability” of senior state Congress leaders to exert pressure on the state government and Assembly authorities to restore their membership of the Assembly, senior leaders led by Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy and TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy have decided to take up a series of programmes, including holding public meetings, in Alampur and Khammam.

A delegation of Congress leaders, to be headed by Jana Reddy, will meet Assembly speaker S Madhusudana Chary on June 11 to know why the government and Assembly authorities are not implementing the court’s judgement which went in favour of the two expelled Congress legislators. Later, the delegation will meet chief secretary SK Joshi. 

After that, the Congress leaders will undertake a 24-hour-long protest fast. Later, they will meet President Ramnath Kovind in New Delhi and complain against the state government about non-implementation of the High Court’s order annulling the expulsion of Komatireddy and Sampath. TPCC leadership will also launch a campaign by distributing pamphlets. Jana Reddy, Uttam Kumar, V Hanumantha Rao, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and others met at Jana Reddy’s residence in the morning. In the evening, they met again at Vikramarka’s house.

Uttam said later that the Congress would file a contempt of court petition in the High Court against the state government and Assembly authorities for not implementing court’s earlier verdict, annulling the expulsion of Komatireddy and Sampath. He said his party would organise public meetings in Alampur and Khammam to expose the “undemocratic” attitude of the government.  

“KCR government is adopting dictatorial methods and is suppressing the voice of opposition parties. The undemocratic expulsion of two Congress members from the House, was an example of it,” Uttam said.
