An air passenger who arrived here from Dubai was arrested on Saturday for allegedly carrying 13 kg of gold estimated at ₹4 crore, Customs officials of the Air Intelligence Unit at Chennai Airport said.
The Customs officials seized the gold from Padma Amble Venkatramaiah, 52, of Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka, who reached the city from Dubai on an Air India flight.
On suspicion, the Customs officers conducted searches and found that a crude thick gold chain was tied around her waist.
She also had four gold ropes tied in her wrists.
