TMC’s rain warning leaves residents living along hill slopes in a spot

Thane: As many as three lakh residents living along hill slopes and adjoining nullahs are in a state of panic after the Thane municipal corporation (TMC) has warned of heavy downpour over the weekend. The civic body has also asked these residents to evacuate the area.
The TMC sent out cautionary notices to residents living in landslide-prone areas and has asked them to relocate. But the administration has no place to accommodate such a huge population.

Meanwhile, some corporators have blamed the Thane municipal corporation for not cleaning up drains and even providing with basic machinery to undertake rescue operations in case of an emergency, especially in areas like Kalwa and Mumbra.

Meanwhile, the administration said that they are geared up to tackle any emergency. “Our staff has been put on high alert and all holidays have been cancelled. Three temporary fire stations have been set up with six staff and adequate rescue machinery to attend to emergency calls,” said a civic official.
