School, teachers should pass on values to students: Governor

Education is ‘a dynamic teacher-student interactive process’, in which teaching needs to be given great emphasis to make it yield maximum learning outcomes, said Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the inauguration of the golden jubilee celebrations of the St. John’s group of schools on Saturday.

Speaking about how an institution is known by the students it produces, Mr. Purohit said the students are known by the values inculcated by the teachers. “The teachers are guided by the policies set by the school management and they should provide the right guidance and leadership for the same,” he said.

The Governor further said Tamil Nadu had made remarkable achievements in education and that it had been one of the pioneers in promoting government-aided schools.

The event kick-started year-long celebrations of the group of institutions, comprising 10 schools. G. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor, VIT University, and musician E. Gayathri were among those who participated in the inaugural.

On the occasion, lifetime achievement awards were given to persons who had been a part of the growth of the schools and contributed to it.

Dr. R. Kishore Kumar, from the St. Johns group of institutions, said they aimed to celebrate every student and look beyond academic excellence. “Schools should plan and nurture citizens of tomorrow who are equipped with life skills and an admirable emotional quotient,” he said.
