With heatwave-like conditions continuing in Delhi, peak power demand soared to an all-time high of 6,934 MW on Friday at 3.28 p.m.
The new high breaks the previous record of 6,651 MW power demand registered on June 1 this year.
Last year, the peak power demand was recorded at 6,526 MW on June 6. This is the fourth time in June 2018 that last year’s record has been breached. On Thursday, the demand was 6,568 MW at 3.20 p.m, said a report by discom BSES.
Power Minister Satyendar Jain said, “We have enough arrangements to meet the power demand that is expected to soar up to 7,000 MW.”
On Friday, the maximum temperature was 40.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of year. The weatherman has forecast light rain on Saturday.
