BENGALURU: After releasing their single titled the Bumblebee. Junkyard Groove is all set to perform their brand new piece for the first time in Bengaluru with their self-titled EP. The band, formed in 2005, promises to bring back the “golden days of the alternative funk rock music.”At the performance in Bengaluru this weekend, Ameeth Thomas, the founder and led vocalist of the band promises the audience an entertaining gig comprising both old and new-work material.
“There are three songs which we are keen to test. We’re going to leave it to the audience to choose the best,” Ameeth says, whose band has opened for international bands such as Iron Maiden, Incubus, Prodigy and Robert Plant. The four-piece band has come a long way from their hometown in Chennai to a decade-long presence in the country’s top 10 indie bands. “Bengaluru is where Junkyard Groove made its name and where we won the National Law School Fest ‘Strawberry Fields’.
So the place is always good to us,” says Ameeth. However, he admits that competition has risen in the music industry due to the electronica and hip hop, which he says is “a huge melting point” for them. “Getting your music across to people is challenging, and it isn’t the same as it used to be in the pre-Facebook era. Now, creating a brand is a major challenge,” he says.
Nevertheless, the band has worked their way through intense competition, will be celebrating their 12th anniversary on June 18. “I see myself getting into music production, and one day being like my favourite producer, Rick Rubin, who produced for bands such as RHCP, Dixie chicks, System of a Down (Chop Suey).”For the live performance in the city, they will be featuring a three-piece Chennai-based rock band ‘Wayside’ at Bluefrog on June 9 at 9 pm.
