A 20-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a room of an international hotel chain in Mayur Vihar on Thursday evening, the police said on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said they received a call from the hotel staff around 7 p.m. A team reached the spot and found the woman lying unconscious inside the washroom.
She was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead.
Checks-in with friend
The hotel staff allegedly told the police that the woman, who worked in a Lajpat Nagar parlour, checked-in on Wednesday with her 20-year-old friend Uday, a resident of Shahdara. They were given the room after they furnished identity proofs.
Uday, however, claimed to have left the room on Thursday morning as his father was unwell.
Friend’s claim
He allegedly called the woman a few times. When she failed to respond, he informed the hotel staff. They opened the door using a master key and found her in the washroom.
Mr. Singh claimed there were no injury marks on the woman’s body. However, her family alleged there were injury marks near her neck. Mr. Singh said the forensics team has inspected the room and lifted samples, including a chemical substance.
“The Forensics Science Laboratory report will identify the substance. Meanwhile, the room has been locked for further investigation,” he said.
The officer said the post-mortem has been conducted and the report is awaited to ascertain the cause of the woman’s death. The woman’s father, who works in Nainital, said he suspected Uday’s role in her death.
“I had a word with my daughter on Tuesday and everything seemed fine. I suspect Uday’s involvement in some way,” he said. The woman’s uncle, with whom she lived in Moti Bagh, said the victim seemed upset for the past few days.
CCTV footage
Mr. Singh said there is no indication of Uday’s involvement in the incident. He allegedly told the police that he had left the hotel as his father was unwell and was admitted to a hospital.
“We checked the CCTV camera footage. His claim was verified but further probe is under way,” the officer added.
