Ropar (Punjab): Tension prevailed in Punjab’s Ropar district after pages of the Guru Granth Sahib — the holy book of Sikhs — were found torn at Dangli village on Saturday morning.

The incident came to light when a group of women devotees entered Gurdwara Singh Shaheeda and spotted the scattered pages of the holy book, police said.

The villagers rushed to the place of worship and then informed the police, who registered a case of sacrilege and started a probe.

A team comprising SSP Rupnagar Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu, DSP Manvir Singh Bajwa and area SHO Rajpal Singh reached the village with a forensic team.

Sandhu said the CCTV cameras installed around the gurdwara could not capture the incident as there was power failure in the area.

However, he said an in-depth probe would be conducted in the matter.
