Union minister Ashwini Choubey today condemned the killings of two BJP workers in Purulia district after the recent panchayat polls in the state and said democratic rights have been violated in West Bengal.
Atrocities on the people of West Bengal should be stopped and the state government should look into the matter, the Union minister of state for health said.
"The matter must be treated with seriousness. Democratic rights have been violated in West Bengal. There were several reports of violence in West Bengal during the panchayat elections. This is highly condemnable. Several BJP workers were tortured while two BJP workers have been killed," he told reporters here.
Bodies of two persons, whom the BJP claimed to be its workers, were found hanging within a gap of two days last week.
Drawing reference to Adolf Hitler's Germany and Benito Mussolini's Italy, he said, "Even the governments of Hitler and Mussolini fell because of their atrocities. One government must not torture the common people."
Choubey, however, did not name any current politician in this connection.
The MP from Buxar said he has plans to visit Purulia.
In Purulia, the BJP gave a tough fight to the ruling Trinamool Congress. They won 839 and 645 seats respectively. Out of the 38 zilla parishad seats, the TMC bagged 26 and the BJP nine.
