HARRISBURG — A Beaver County man who volunteers to help protect senior citizens from fraud will be honored June 11 in Harrisburg.

David Aitken of Beaver will be recognized by government officials and stakeholder group members during an 11 a.m. ceremony in the East Wing Rotunda of the State Capitol Complex. Aitken joins 11 other volunteers of the AARP Consumer Issues Task Force who work to help senior citizens avoid financial fraud and scams through the Campaign for Wise and Safe Investing.

Robin L. Wiessmann, secretary of Banking and Securities, and representatives from AARP Pennsylvania and the Investor Protection Trust will present the awards.

Aitken is a retired railroad yardmaster for Penn Central and Conrail who now serves as Team Lead of AARP’s Northwest Region, encompassing nine counties. He is the president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Beaver County. He enjoys seeing that “aha moment” when an attendee to one of his presentations promises to be more vigilant in any potential scam situation.

Wiessmann also will mark 10 years of partnership with AARP and IPT, and announce a grant renewal from IPT to continue the work of the anti-fraud campaign.
