BELAGAVI/ BENGALURU: Angry over not getting a place in the cabinet, AICC secretary and Yamakanmardi MLA Satish Jarkiholi threatened to resign from his AICC post, in Belagavi, on Friday. This was following a meeting with Congress working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, minister Krishna Byregowda and MLC Rizwan Arshad in Bengaluru. Jarkiholi, who was prominent among the dissident leaders, headed back to Belagavi district following the meeting. He had also held talks with Congress leader M B Patil previously — who was summoned to Delhi to resolve the crisis in cabinet berth allocation issue.
Jarakiholi said there was a conspiracy to not include him in the cabinet and will unmask those behind it. “I am capable of making other MLAs ministers. Yet, I was not included in the cabinet and it has hurt my pride,” he said. He added that fellow Congress members in the party have played a big role in denying him a cabinet berth. “Me, along with other 11 MLAs, including M B Patil, will meet the high command on June 11,” he added.
Protesting that Jarkiholi has been let down by Congress leaders, close to 50 elected representatives from Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and APMC members sent their resignations to KPCC chief G Parameshwara on Friday. Elected members of different local bodies from Yamakanamaradi Assembly segment were a majority among those who put in their resignation papers.
The supporters, who had been protesting since last two days, decided to resign on Friday. Speaking to reporters, Gangadhar Tavagmath a zilla panchayat member, said, Satish Jarkiholi had contributed immensely for strengthening the party. “However, the party has done injustice to Jarkiholi. KPCC President and current Deputy CM G Parameshwa, AICC Karnataka state in-charge K C Venugopal, and senior leader Ahmed Patel are behind the conspiracy to not include Jarakiholi in the cabinet,” he said.
