Activists educate people on honking, pollution

Indore : A private healthcare organisation conducted a public awareness drive to encourage commuters and traffic police for reducing air pollution to keep environment clean, healthy and green at Palasia square’s traffic signal on Saturday.

The objective of the drive was to motivate people to turn off the ignition until the signal turns green. The campaign also urged people to stop extreme use of honking, which increases noise pollution.

The awareness activity by Indus Health Plus was conducted during peak hours of traffic congestion. The participants educated commuters through placards about the need to take measures to stop pollution, which is destroying environment.

Activists also spoke to commuters when the traffic light turned red to inform them about how pollution affects their health.

Amol Naikawadi of Indus Health Plus said, “Air pollution increases the risk of heart diseases, hypertension and ENT problems. It is also responsible for most number of non-communicable disease deaths globally.” He quoted a recent study which stated that India has been ranked number 1 in pollution-related deaths.
