Shonda Rhimes has picked the subject matter for her first Netflix series and it is a bit of a caper.
Rhimes and the streaming giant successfully bought the rights to the New York Magazine article "How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People," by Jessica Pressler, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The article ran on May 28 in the magazine and chronicles the true story of how one woman tricked New York's high society with her "lavish lifestyle."
This is the first series Rhimes has put in the pipeline with Netflix after signing an eye-popping $100 million development deal with Netflix last August. She will also write the pilot, her first since penning the Scandal opening episode in 2012. While Rhimes has executive produced several series for ABC since Scandal, she's let other writers hold the creative reigns for latter Shondaland dramas like How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch.
As previously reported, Rhimes will continue overseeing all Shondaland shows currently on the air at ABC, including Grey's Anatomy and its spin-off Station 19, but all of her future projects including series and movies will be developed for the streaming service.
