BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Central University has decided to rename its foreign languages department as Centre for global languages. The 33-year-old department will be shifted to a new building and soon they will be offering more courses.

“We are introducing integrated MA in French this academic year, admissions for which will begin soon. From the next year, we intend to start MA integrated course even in Spanish, German and Chinese languages,” said Centre’s chairperson Prof Jyothi Venkatesh. Presently, the department is offering 11 programmes in different foreign languages. Short-term conversation courses for those who wish to travel to different countries are also expected to be introduced soon.

Over poor admissions, Jyothi said, “Trifurcation had triggered apprehension among students regarding the transfer of the department, but now the situation has changed. Over 360 students passed out this year.”
