Pb to honour best performing schools

In a bid to transfrom the State education sector, Punjab Government has decided to honour the best performing schools with cash awards, besides giving a new modern look to the Government schools.

Calling the decision a “complete transformation of stereotype education system”, the state Education Minister Om Prakash Soni on Friday said that with the recognition of the best schools, a constructive competitive atmosphere would be created among the teachers, which would go a long way in the betterment of education in the state.

He said that the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh led Government is working hard to improve the state’s education system.

Soni said that ‘good performers will be rewarded’ is the new mantra of Education Department which is eager to take the quality of education in government schools to a new level.

As per a slew of decisions, the State Government has decided to honour the best performing schools, where teachers have made a big contribution through their positive and constructive efforts.

The unique initiative is aimed at improving the quality of school education and creating a competitive spirit among the schools, teachers and the students, said Soni.

Under the new mantra, the best performing primary school in every block and the best performing middle, high and senior secondary school in every district will be selected for the award.

The best performing school will be selected on the basis of their performance in academic, infrastructure, co-curricular activities, attendance and visits of prominent persons.

The selected primary school will get a cash award of Rs two lakh, middle school Rs five lakh, high school Rs 7.5 lakh and senior secondary school will receive Rs 10 lakh at the end of the academic session.

The prize money will be used to raise the standard of education and to provide basic amenities on the campus, said Soni.

The unique initiative will ensure a better future for students and build a state-of-the-art school in the state, he said.

Besides, efforts will be made to give a modern look to the schools which will draw more students to the government schools. The campaign will also imbibe a competitive spirit, which will go a long way in to achieving success in competitive exams, he said.

Only recently, the state Education Department had done away with the paper work by making vacation work online.
