COLOMBO (News 1st) – Twenty houses have been damaged due to strong winds that blew across Kurunegala.
Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili said the situation was reported earlier this morning (June 9), adding that steps are underway to provide relief for those affected.
Meanwhile, a spill gate of the Kukuleganga reservoir continues to remain open. According to a News 1st correspondent, the Bulathsinhala – Paragoda road is inundated as a result of this.
Issuing a weather advisory, the Department of Meteorology said prevailing windy condition over the island and in the sea areas around the island, are expected to continue over the next few days. Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces, and in Galle and Matara Districts, fairly heavy falls of about 75 mm could be expected at some places.
According to the department, strong gusty winds up to 60 kmph could be expected over the island particularly in the Western, Southern, Central, Northern, North-central and North-western Provinces and the Monaragala District.
