A nine-year-old boy suffered a bullet injury at Kolkata's Dum Dum metro station after a Railway Police Force (RPF) official's rifle accidentally went off earlier today.
Latest reports say the boy's mother, who was standing with him, also suffered a bullet injury.
A report on Anandabazar Patrika says that the accident took place when the RPF jawan dropped his self-loading rifle while picking up his wallet from the ground.
The impact of the fall unlocked the rifle's safety catch, causing it go off and fire at the boys and his mother standing nearby.
The boy suffered a bullet injury in the leg, while the mother was hit under the arm. They were both rushed to the nearby RG Kaur medical college in Belgachia.
The RPF jawan in question is said to have been detained by police. Footage from Dum Dum metro station's CCTV camera is investigated to ensure how exactly the accident took place.
