Submission made in Karnataka High Court

A day after the Karnataka High Court described the government’s action of setting up parallel bodies, like Bengaluru Blueprint Action Group (BBAG), as prima facie ‘illogical, unwarranted and uncalled for’, it was indicated to the court on Friday that the State government is in the process of withdrawing the BBAG.

Additional Advocate General (AAG) A.S. Ponnanna made a submission in this regard before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Krishna S. Dixit during the hearing of PIL petitions, which had questioned the government’s April 28, 2016 notification of constituting BBAG to advise the government on planning and implementing schemes for the city’s improvement.

As the AAG sought time to place on record the final decision of the State, the bench adjourned further hearing till Monday.

The bench had, on Thursday, questioned the need for creation of bodies like BBAG as a parallel to statutory bodies, like the Bengaluru Metropolitan Planning Committee, which was set up as per the provisions of the Constitution of India, by amending the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act.
