Vadodara: Kuldeep alias Montu Chauhan, the 35-year-old garments trader, who brutally stabbed to death a school teacher in Gorwa on Thursday, was remanded to one day police custody for questioning.
Police sources said that Chauhan, who killed 54-year-old Madhuri Jariwala after a quarrel of dumping garbage, did not escape from his house after committing the crime. In the preliminary questioning, Chauhan told the police that he stabbed her in a fit of massive rage and regular fight over garbage.

On Friday, police told the court that they want to know more about his background and ascertain if he was involved in any other crimes in the past. Chauhan had shifted to Sabarkantha from Vadodara before five years but the family regularly came to live here for few days in the Kashidham Society where the crime happened.

“We are also questioning him to find out if there was any other reason behind the murder. Chauhan has maintained that he was angry due to the frequent quarrels with Jariwala whom he killed in a fit of rage,” said R S Dodia, Gorwa police inspector.

Meanwhile, residents of the society gathered at the Gorwa police station late on Thursday night and demanded action against Chauhan’s full family. “They said the family was a nuisance and insisted that they all should be arrested. But the complainant had seen only Chauhan attack Jariwala. No other member of the accused’s family was involved in the crime. We explained this to the society members after which they relented,” Dodia added.

Jariwala was a teacher with Prerna Hindi Vidyalaya on Bajwa-Karodiya Road.

The Jariwala family had been objecting to Chauhan dumping garbage on their terrace and outside their house, the police said. And, the Chauhan family too made similar allegations against the Jariwalas.

When Chauhan arrived in the city from Sabarkantha on Tuesday, he allegedly dumped trash on the Jariwalas’ terrace. On Wednesday night, Jariwala’s son, Viplav, suspected that Chauhan found some bags of garbage on their terrace and complained about it to Jariwala.

Viplav told police that his mother to go to the terrace to talk with Chauhan. When she went upstairs, Chauhan tried to hit her with an iron pipe but she managed to save herself. Chauhan then pulled out a knife and stabbed her several times.
