Daniel Levy has smashed Tottenham Hotspur’s wage structure to give Harry Kane a new contract worth up to £62.4 million with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli next in line to finalise deals.
Kane has signed a six-year deal that could earn him £200,000-a-week including bonuses, which almost doubles his previous contract.
While Kane is still some way behind the Premier League’s very highest earners, Levy has demonstrated his willingness to stretch Tottenham’s budget to keep the club competitive ahead of their move into the new stadium.
With Mauricio Pochettino already committing himself to the club, Spurs chairman Levy is now hopeful of confirming new contracts for Eriksen and Alli, while Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris are also expected to recommit themselves.
The timing of the Kane announcement could not be better for the player or Spurs, as the England captain leaves for the World Cup on Tuesday.
“I’m really excited, it’s a proud day,” said Kane. “Obviously it’s been a great few seasons and I’m looking forward to the future.
“I’m looking forward to the new stadium first and foremost and just to keep progressing as a club. It’s been fantastic to consistently get in the Champions League so I’m really excited to have another go at that and with the Premier League and FA Cup, we’ll look to go as far as we can. For us as a club, it’s just about keeping improving and we’ll work hard to do that.
“I’m obviously really excited about the World Cup coming up so it’s nice to get this done before that and I’m just looking to go out there and enjoy it now. It’s been a great season, like always the aim is to try to improve so hopefully I can do that this summer and obviously next season as well.”
