PATNA: The state home department on Friday suspended
Patna Town DSP
S A Hashmi with immediate effect for allegedly seeking
sexual favours from a girl.
An audio clip had surfaced on June 2 in which Hashmi was allegedly heard asking a girl to make him ‘happy’ and he would do anything for her. Several obscene words were used allegedly by Hashmi for the girl during the conversation.
A day after the audio clip, a video of Hashmi on a news portal showed him begging to a scribe not to air the audio clip as it would sully his image and reputation.
DGP K S Dwivedi had recommended his suspension to the home department on Tuesday after DIG (central range) Rajesh Kumar, in his preliminary inquiry report, found Hashmi guilty. Sources said it is the first case of suspension of a DSP rank officer in Patna.
The home department, in its notification, said Hashmi was prima facie found responsible for dereliction of duty, moral turpitude, dubious character and indiscipline while discharging his duties.
Hashmi would report to the DG (home guard) office in Patna during suspension period. Departmental proceedings would separately continue against him.
Sources said Hashmi, due to his proximity with a couple of leaders in the opposition parties, enjoyed his powers with impunity and even senior police officials did not dare tell him much in any case. “He has been posted in Patna for more than five years. Even after his promotion to DSP rank from inspector last year, he was not transferred out of the state capital due to his strong political and bureaucratic connections,” sources said.
They also said Hashmi, almost five years back, was also suspended for slapping a scribe over an altercation in Patna. “He is also close to some top IAS and IPS officers in the state,” sources said.
