Karnataka Legislative Council poll from six constituencies today

The biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council from three graduates and three teachers constituencies will be held on Friday.

BENGALURU: The biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council from three graduates and three teachers constituencies will be held on Friday as the sitting members are retiring on June 21.The retiring members include  Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, who represents Karnataka South West Graduates constituency, Ramesh Babu, Marithibbe Gowda, Capt Ganesh Karnik, Ramachandra Gowda and Amarnath Patil. The results will be declared on June 12.

As many as 22 candidates are contesting from Bengaluru Graduates Constituency, which includes Bengaluru City, Bengaluru Rural and Ramanagara districts and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (Central, North and South zones). It has 65,354 voters.

In all, 75 candidates are contesting from the six constituencies, including three sitting MLCs Ramesh Babu (JD-S) from Karnataka South East Teachers constituency, Marithibbe Gowda (JD-S) from Karnataka South Teachers constituency and Capt Ganesh Karnik (BJP) from South West Teachers constituency.

Marithibbe Gowda is seeking re-election for the fourth time from South Teachers constituency.   Council chairman Shankaramurthy, whose tenure as House member is ending on June 21, is not contesting the polls.
