Mahanati’s deleted scene throws light on Rekha and father Gemini Ganesan’s relationship. Watch video

Actor Rekha’s relationship with her father, late actor Gemini Ganesan, was known to be turbulent. When she made her film debut, the subject was publicly discussed as well. Now, a deleted scene from Mahanati, the biopic on actor Savitri, has surfaced which shows a scene where Rekha meets her father with her mother Pushpavalli at Savitri’s residence during a Navaratri puja.

Gemini was in relationship with Pushpavalli, with whom he was in a relationship while being married to both Alamelu and Savitri. They had two daughters together, including Rekha.

It begins with Savitri’s daughter Vijaya running to her, crying about this girl Rekha who claims that Gemini is her father too. Savitri tells her upset daughter that their family is big, and Rekha is a part of their family too. Her daughter asks, “Then how come we haven’t met them?” As a result, Savitri invites Pushpavalli and her children to the puja where Alamelu is also present with her daughters.

When Simi Grewal had asked Rekha about missing her father on her show, the actor had replied, “If you don’t taste something, you don’t know what it means. I didn’t know what the word “father” meant.”

Later, in 2015, the actor in an interview to Khalid Mohamed she had said, “I adored my father but there was a distance which could never be covered. My father (Gemini Ganesan) wrote poetry fluidly, he was a man of literature. As an actor, he was a heartthrob for decades.”

She had also said that she would never adopt a child, “I would never adopt a child because it is the hardest job ever. I know what it is to be deprived of a father’s love. I would want a child to have both parents. That’s why I’ve never thought of adoption… or of having a child out of wedlock.”

At the end of the video, the young Rekha is seen hugging her father before leaving, maybe this was her adoration for her father who was never a part of her life.

Mahanati starred Keerthy Suresh as Savitri while Dulquer Salmaan played the role of Ganesan.
