Rajkot: A mistake in announcing the name of a deceased infant led to utter confusion at the KT Children’s Hospital in Rajkot on Friday. It not only gave parents of the one-day-old girl, who was mistakenly declared dead, a shock of their life, but also sent the cops into a tizzy.
A one-day-old girl Reena Rathwa from a remote village in Gondal was referred to K T Children’s Hospital on Friday morning after she developed some post-birth complications. At the same time, another infant girl from Rajkot city was brought to the hospital soon after the birth.

“The girl from Rajkot died. But the doctor on duty by mistake declared Reena from Gondal as dead,” Dr Palak Happani of K T Children’s Hospital said. As soon as the doctor made the announcement, the cops at the hospital sent message to their counterpart in Gondal that the girl referred to Rajkot had died.

However, the doctors realized the mistake after half-an-hour that the girl from Gondal was alive and it was the infant girl from Rajkot who had died. They corrected the mistake and informed the police. The cops again called the Gondal police officials and asked them to make the necessary correction.

Reena is still under observation at in the ICU of K T Children’s Hospital.
