Church leader wins retrial over alleged rape of choir girls
An evangelist and pentecostal church treasurer accused of raping young choir girls in Brisbane and Ipswich has won a retrial on 21 child sex charges.
Queensland's Court of Appeal has quashed all convictions against Shartiel Nibigira, who was alleged to have abused four girls aged eight to 12, sometimes while he was driving them home after choir practice between 2011 and 2013.
The court granted him a retrial on Friday after ruling his Brisbane District Court trial last year was flawed because he should have received a separate trial for complaints involving two of his alleged victims.
