COIMBATORE: Minister of state for railways Rajen Gohain on Friday flagged off the much-awaited Coimbatore-Bengaluru Uday Express train.
The double decker airconditioned chair car train, which has mini dining areas, is the first train to Bengaluru originating from here.

The train in bright orange and yellow colours was decorated and was scheduled to depart from Coimbatore Junction at 10am. However, the inaugural function delayed its first journey by almost one hour and 20 minutes.

Around 150 people travelled in the first journey.

From tomorrow, the train will leave Coimbatore Junction at 5.45am and arrive in Bangalore at 12.40pm. The train will depart from Bengaluru at 2.15pm and reach Coimbatore at 9pm.

The train is expected to be a boon for frequent travellers between the two cities and people looking for a quick weekend getaway.

Union minister for state for finance and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan was among those who participated in the flagging off ceremony.
