SWANSEA - Madyson Medeiros had three hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs, while Aubrey Carpenter limited visiting Rockland to a pair of hits in Case's 12-0 Division 3 South Sectional softball victory Thursday afternoon.

The sixth-seeded Cardinals will travel to third-seeded Monomoy on Sunday at 1 p.m. Monomoy defeated 14th-seeded Bellingham 2-1 in 10 innings Thursday.

"We came in here blind, but I know if we play our best softball we can win a state championship," said Case coach Michaela Goncalves. "I'm very happy with the way we performed today."

Carpenter gave the Cardinals all the run support they would need with a first-inning single that drove home Autumn Medeiros, who had doubled with one out.

Carpenter took care of the rest.

The Case hurler allowed a single in the second and fourth innings and that was it. She finished with four strikeouts and two walks.

Carpenter was backed by a five-run third inning that was keyed by a Madyson Medeiros two-run double to right-center. Her double came right after she launched a ball over the left-field fence that was just foul.

"That's what I was most impressed about with her today," Goncalves said. "She crushed one foul and then smacked one to right-center, going with the pitch. She plays pitch for pitch softball."

"My main goal is to just move my girls across and get the job done," said Medeiros. "I don't keep track of my average or anything like that. I just try to help the team. I think we have the ability to go far this year and we're having a lot of fun doing it."

Medeiros added a two-run homer in a three-run fourth, and the Cardinals tacked on three more runs in the fifth to end the game via the 12-run mercy rule.

Leadoff batter Fallon Marchand went 3-for-4 with three singles. She also scored three runs.

Autumn Medeiros, Ali Feilhauer and Chloe Bibeau all had two hits for the winners.
