SYCAMORE – The rape trial of Sycamore man has been delayed from next week until September.

Thomas A. Broughton and Ashley N. Zick both face sexual assault and unlawful restraint charges after police said they plied a 19-year-old woman with alcohol and then repeatedly raped her at their apartment in the 400 block of East State Street.

Court records show both were set to go to trial Monday, but special prosecutor Brooke Shupe said Thursday that Broughton’s trial has been postponed until Sept. 10, with a final jury setting scheduled for Sept. 6. Shupe is joined by another special prosecutor, Lorinda Lamken, on the case.

Broughton’s lawyer, Bob Nolan, will be defending 22-year-old Chicago man DeAngelo Bryant in an armed robbery trial that starts Tuesday.

Broughton was sentenced to two years in prison Dec. 28 for failing to register as a sex offender, and he was credited with 331 days served. He pleaded guilty in 2012 to aggravated criminal sexual abuse for inappropriately touching a 5-year-old girl and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Lamken said two motions are awaiting rulings before the case goes to trial.
