Rajkot: A 40-year-old contractual driver attached to Kutch collector office, Jayesh Parmar, was arrested on Friday for allegedly murdering a woman, Kamla Gadhvi, 38, whose body was found lying with severe head injuries near Bhuj on June 1. Police nabbed Parmar from Bhuj town.
Initially, it was very difficult for police to identify the body of the woman as her face was badly disfigured. “On June 7, someone informed us that the woman’s name was Kamla Gadhvi and she used to live in the homes provided by Kutch Vikas Trust,” said M J Jalu, police inspector, Bhuj.

Jalu said photographs of the body were shown to her neighbours and later her cousin brother living in Bhuj was also called in. He confirmed her identity. Police had also recovered the blood-stained stones from the spot of the crime and messages were also circulated on social media with the description of the body to get clues.

“We found her house locked, and broke open the door to find some papers and her mobile number. The call detail records revealed that she used to talk most frequently with Parmar,” said Jalu. Investigation revealed that Parmar, who is married, had been pursuing an affair with Gadhvi for the past one year.

Gadhvi was widowed around 15 years ago and lived alone. She had no children. Her brother and father live in Porbandar, said police.

Parmar broke down when he was picked up for questioning, and confessed to killing Gadhvi. He alleged that Gadhvi had been blackmailing him with their photographs and videos. She had threatened to show them to his wife.

On June 1, the duo had gone to an isolated spot on the Bhuj-Khavda Road on Parmar’s bike. On the way, Gadhvi reportedly verbally abused Parmar. Angered by her words, Parmar struck her with his hand while on the running bike and she fell from the bike. Parmar then decided to kill her in a fit of rage. He picked up some big stones lying nearby and smashed Gadhvi’s head, leaving her dead on the spot. He dealt such terrible blows that her head was mostly parted from the torso, said police.
