They have thanked CTP and MTC for taking measures to facilitate orderly and safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic

Pedestrians who frequent the space outside the subway on E. V. R. Periyar Salai are a relieved lot now.

They have thanked the Chennai Traffic Police (CTP) for having taken steps to remove a parking slot used by autos and share-autos drivers.

They have also thanked the crew of MTC route numbers for halting the buses at the bays outside Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).

These actions have been taken in response to an article in The Hindu Downtown.

Earlier, pedestrians had a tough time walking through the area to go to Chennai Central, George Town, Chennai Park and Park Town railway terminals due to haphazard parking of vehicles and a non-designated MTC route numbers halting point.

As a result of this, pedestrians would cross the road at the intersection of Pallavan Salai and EVR Periyar Salai, Park Town.

There is no pedestrian signal at the intersection. Adding to the chaos, motorists coming from Broadway jump lanes and zoom away towards Egmore and Vepery.

Also, the motorists were not able to move after the signal turned green Undisciplined motorists would jump lanes causing traffic congestion; and altercations between motorists were common.

Walkers faced the risk of being knocked down by motorists proceeding towards Egmore, and those taking an u-turn from the western side to the eastern side of EVR Periyar Salai.
