Being deaf and mute no hurdle for this girl

A deaf and mute girl became an inspiration to many as she braved her hardships and withstood battles with life. Amrita Rewatkar emerged as a winner as she scored 72.4% in the exam. A student of Deaf and Dumb School, Shankar Nagar, Rewatkar was also a state level marathon runner and had won a gold medal in the sport. Rewatkar’s parents and siblings are also deaf and mute. She comes from a financially poor background. Her parents have to labour through the day to be able to afford an education for their three children. Rewatkar’s mother is a caretaker in a hostel in a remote village and her father works as a labourer at a leather workshop. Kamal Waghmare, principle of Deaf and Dumb School, said, “She would always participate actively in all the sports events that were organized and we’re proud that she has performed so well in the academic field as well. She never let her inabilities overpower her and emerged as a winner in the end.”
