Ertugral to remain in charge of Urban Warriors

2018-06-08 15:21

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town chairperson Ari Efstathiou says coach Muhsin Ertugral will remain in charge regardless of whether or not the Urban Warriors are relegated.

The experienced Turkish mentor took over from Stanley Menzo at the start of the 2018 season, and initially achieved some positive results while at the helm.

However, despite some improvement, the side from the Mother City finished in 15th before being deducted points for fielding the ineligible Tendai Ndoro. As a result, Ajax ended 16th and were automatically relegated to the National First Division.

Ajax are awaiting the result of an appeal against the decision to dock the club of points, however, omens don't appear to be favourable for the club.

Nonetheless, Efstathiou confirmed that Ertugral would keep his job whatever the outcome. Speaking to KickOff, he said: "The coach is staying on whether we stay on in the PSL, or whether we're not successful (in the court case)."

He also added that parent team Ajax Amsterdam would continue to provide backing in the event of demotion, saying: "We don't make any decision without Amsterdam's approval.

"We have a board, and are a properly constituted company that sits and makes decisions democratically and they're completely behind the process."
