Cape Town - Queen Maxima (47) of the Netherlands. youngest sister Inés Zorreguieta (33) was allegedly found dead of an apparent suicide at her home in Bueno Aires, reports say.
“It is presumed that it was a suicide,” a spokesperson of the Dutch government told the Argentinian newspaper, La Nacion.
According to reports, Inés suffered from depression and mental health issues.
The Argentinian native reportedly worked as a researcher at the United Nations in Panama and was an avid guitar player, reports The Guardian.
According to a statement released by the royal house, Queen Maxima was “very shocked a sad” at her sister's tragic death.
She has cancelled her upcoming public engagements and will fly to Argentina, along with her husband King Willem-Alexander, for the funeral in Buenos Aires, reports BBC.
Maxima, who has been queen since 2013, was close to her younger sister, who was a bridesmaid at her wedding and godmother to her youngest child, Ariane.
The Argentinian Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie sympathised with Queen Maxima on behalf of Argentina, according to ABC News.
"The regret of losing a sister, and a sister who was very dear. Therefore, we will be with her … to facilitate everything connected with the case, with a possible arrival from her or her family members, to participate in the funeral of her sister," he said.
