The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Thursday issued a notice to the police, demanding a detailed list of minors who were rescued from brothels in G.B. Road, since January 2000.

The women’s commission also sought details as to why the brothels had not been sealed and a list of action taken against those brothels, if any.
In a letter to SHO (Kamla Nagar), the DCW said, “As you may be aware, provisions of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, each building from where a minor is rescued is mandated to be sealed by the authorities. The DCW has in coordination with the Delhi Police rescued several minors from GB Road in the past years. However, no brothel from where a minor was rescued has been closed down.”
Stating that the Act mandates the police station concerned to communicate the details of the rescues to the concerned SDM, the letter further read, “Please provide information regarding whether the detail of each rescue was shared with the SDM concerned.”
The commission has also sought response pertaining to the present status of each brothel.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “It seems that certain police personnel are helping these brothels run. We have rescued several minors from GB Road in the last three years, along with the DCW. It is for this reason that we have asked for information from the SHO within a week, else further legal action will be taken as per law.”
Reply sought by June 15
The authorities have been asked to reply by June 15.
