MANGALURU: Days after right-wing supporters held protest against ‘Christianity and Islam’ chapter in a school textbook, a political organisation Campus Front of India (CFI) has opposed forced recital of bhajanas and practice of Suryanamaskar at Shree Panchadurga School at Uli Village in Bantwal taluk.
Vazeer, the leader of CFI, in a memorandum to block education officer, has alleged that from past several years education institution which has students from all faiths have been forced to recite bhajanas as well do Suryanamaskar. Bhajanas are held every Thursday and Suryanamaskar twice a week. Vazeer maintained that even children’s parents have opposed it, yet they are compelled by school staff to attend it.

He also told that such imposition is forcing children to discontinue from that school..

"Both Bhajana and Suryanamaskar are not compulsory for any child. “It is held before the usual class hours and Suryanamaskar is instructed by physical teachers. Those who are interested can attend it and rest are free to stay away. School has not forced any student,” clarified school headmaster Jaganath.

Y Shivaramaiah, DDPI, reacted that department will probe into the allegations.
