CEDAR RAPIDS — A new truck stop on the southern end of Cedar Rapids is scheduled to open Saturday, bringing an Arby’s restaurant along with it.
Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot Flying J will open a new Pilot Travel Center at 8950 Earhart Lane, at the northeast corner of Wright Brothers Boulevard and Interstate 380. The company first proposed the truck stop in June 2017.
It will be the first Travel Center in Cedar Rapids, but the 18th the company has in Iowa.
Once open, the Travel Center will have a an Arby’s restaurant, a Dunkin’ Donuts Express station, a Western Union, a driver’s lounge, truck scales, a public laundry facility, other food and beverage options, 10 fueling stations for gasoline and six lanes for diesel fueling, according to a news release.
It will employ about 70 people.
The truck stop’s location puts it near the Eastern Iowa Airport, a number of distribution companies and the site of what will be Lil’ Drug Store Products’ new headquarters and distribution center. It also will be near two other fueling stations — a Casey’s General Store and Kwik Star on the west side of I-380.
The section of Interstate 380 directly south of the Travel Center saw more than 52,000 vehicles a day in 2013, while Wright Brothers Boulevard saw between 5000 and 14,500, state traffic maps show.
