Volusia County Public Library receives NEA Big Read grant

The Volusia County Public Library system has received a $15,000 NEA Big Read grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Volusia County Council has matched the grant to bring the popular program to the county’s 13 public library branches in 2019. The system’s 13 library branches and other venues will host book discussions and schedule author talks, theatrical events and music programs from Jan. 19 to Feb. 28, 2019. County Council members may attend Roundtable meeting

Two or more members of the Volusia County Council may attend a meeting of the Roundtable of Volusia County Elected Officials at noon Monday, June 11, in the second-floor Dennis McGee Room at the Daytona Beach International Airport, 700 Catalina Drive. Jan Cornelius, Volusia County’s chief deputy property appraiser, will give an update on the tax rolls for the county and cities, describe the impact of an additional homestead exemption, and provide tax information that may affect the budgets for local governments and the school district. AARP Ormond-by-the-Sea to meet

The Crime Prevention Task Force will address AARP members and the general public 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden Road. The address will include an update on their community service organization developed by former law enforcement officers. A light lunch is available to members and to the public for $3. Coffee, Cops and Conversation event

DeBary book club discusses ‘Defending Jacob'

The Adult Book Club will discuss William Landay's “Defending Jacob” 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the DeBary Public Library, 200 N. Charles R. Human Services Advisory Board to meet

Volusia County’s Human Services Advisory Board will conduct its annual planning and development meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, 3747 W.
