BJP: RaGa must clear air on Congress’ link to Bhima-Koregaon

| | New Delhi

The BJP on Thursday asked the Congress to respond to the charges that it had links with the January Bhima-Koregaon Dalit protests in Pune district and sought a response from the Opposition party’s president Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP attacked Congress after Pune police revealed the latter’s alleged link with Maoists in connection with Bhima-Koregaon violence.

“Maoists, Congress links to Bhima-Koregaon exposed. Letter captured from arrested prime accused Rona Wilson mentioned Jignesh Mewani’s name It says Jignesh is a conduit in between Congress and Maoists,” said BJP National Spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra. The Dalit event which later turned violent was also attended by dalit leader Mewani

Congress-backed Mevani  had in the Gujarat Assembly polls defeated BJP’s Vijay Chakravarti in Vadgam constituency.

“Hunger for power in Congress party has been exposed like never before,” Patra said referring to the arrests by Pune police and  seizure of a letter that allegedly refers to the Maoist working at the behest of the Congress to abet Dalit protests. Patra also said that the BJP has accessed the letter and will investigate it.

“We have accessed the letter. The letter is addressed to Rona Wilson. If you go through the letter you will find they are using Dalits as a tool for agitation,” said the BJP  Spokesperson. He claimed that  the Bhima-Koregaon agitation was manufactured.

“Certificate is being given for agitation. The letter is a proof that there is an anti-India gang,” said Patra. Pune Police has made five arrests in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence and  pointed at the involvement of a political party with Rona.

Dalits have been celebrating the victory of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon, that was fought on January 1, 1818 but this year they were opposed by ‘right wing’ groups. Dalits traditionally celebrate this day as most of the soldiers in the Bombay Native Infantry which fought the Peshwa’s men were Mahar Dalits.
