In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old boy has allegedly raped a two-year-old girl in a village under Vajrapukotturu police station limits in Srikakulam district. Though the incident took place on Tuesday, it came to light on Thursday after the victim’s family members lodged a police complaint.
The matter is being investigated post which the juvenile offender will be sent to a juvenile home. According to the police, the boy reportedly lured the girl, who was playing along with few children, into his house, and allegedly raped her. Though the girl’s grandfather reportedly noticed the crime, he failed to rescue her and his efforts to nab the boy went in vain. According to sources, a panchayat was convened in the village on Wednesday, in which it was decided to settle the matter at the village level itself. However, family members of the victim were not convinced and approached the police Wednesday night. The police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The boy is in his parent’s custody as of now and the girl was sent for medical examination, said the police.
