1-year-old drowns in pool at Elyria Township home

Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and the Lorain County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy June 8 in a pool at his Elyria Township home, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The Elyria Township Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an Elyria Township home in the 41000 block of Rosewood Street at 10:44 a.m. and found Antonio Rodriguez, who was found unresponsive by his 32-year-old mother, the release said.

Other family members live at the home, but none of them were present at the time of the incident, the release said.

It was reported that Antonio had gone missing from the house for an undetermined amount of time, according to the release.

Upon the mother realizing the child was missing, she began looking for him and found him in the pool under a solar cover, the release said.

Antonio’s mother called 911 after locating him, the release said.

It was reported that neighbors responded to the residence after hearing screams from the mother.

The neighbors performed CPR on the child, the release said.

Antonio subsequently was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center by the Elyria Township Fire Department, where he was pronounced deceased, the release said.

No other details were released.
