More inmates than ever are incarcerated at the Flagler County jail but there's plenty of room, according to Sheriff Rick Staly.

A jail population report released Friday by the Sheriff’s Office states that 243 inmates are being housed at the jail as of Friday. The majority of inmates are 22- to 40-year-old men. The average stay of a single inmate is about 85 days.

“The number of inmates housed at the jail is up 87 percent since I became sheriff," Staly said in a written release, "but the number we will never know is how many crimes have been prevented by our deputies getting these offenders off the streets. To anyone out there thinking about committing a crime in Flagler County don’t worry, we still have plenty of rooms available at the Green Roof Inn!”

The county jail, which Staly recently renamed the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, underwent a major renovation that was completed in June 2016. The addition increase the daily inmate capacity from from 132 to 402.
