Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy narrowly escaped an attack by a swarm of honey bees at Nadipallikota village on Thursday.
On the 183rd day of his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, Mr. Jagan was walking through Nadipallikota village and had just passed a temple when a youth hit a beehive with a stone disturbing it, and bees in large numbers attacked YSR Congress Party workers.
Mr. Jagan’s security personnel kept the bees at bay by frantically waving hand kerchiefs and towels.
About 50 party workers and a TV reporter sustained injuries and they were rushed to the Nidadavolu government hospital.
Mr. Jagan suspended his yatra after walking for two to three km and proceeded to the Madhurapudi airport from where he took a flight to Hyderabad to attend court on Friday.
The yatra is expected enter East Godavari district from the Kovvuru side on June 11.
