The estate of Prince and Warner Bros. Records have announced a new album to commemorate the late singer's 60th birthday.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the company said the new album 'Piano & A Microphone 1983' will be released on September 21 on CD, vinyl and digital formats.
The album features Prince working through nine tracks in a private rehearsal recording at his now-demolished home studio in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen.
"The private rehearsal recording, captured at Prince's home studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota, provides a rare, intimate glimpse into the iconic artist's creative process as he works through songs including '17 Days', 'Purple Rain', 'Strange Relationship', and 'International Lover'," it said.
The first song from the album, a cover of the spiritual "Mary Don't You Weep", will be featured during the end credits of Spike Lee's "BlacKkKlansman" film, which releases in August this year.
The album's cover photo captures a rare view of Prince backstage during the 1999 tour, which wrapped up in April 1983. It was taken by Prince's trusted photographer and creative collaborator Allen Beaulieu, who worked closely with the musician between 1979-1984.
