Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis today said the government wants to include water transportation in the proposed integrated ticketing system.
"To provide ease to commuters, we are developing a single ticket system. Probably, after the monsoon, we will also include water transport in this (single ticketing)," Fadnavis said at an event here today.
Integrated ticketing system (ITS), also known as single ticket system allows commuters to use a smart card for multi-modal corridors.
"Unless we create a multi-modal public transport, cities will not prosper. We are undertaking various projects to ensure ease in commutation," he said.
The MMRDA, which is implementing the project, plans to connect suburban railways, Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, monorail and the existing metro line 1 in the first phase.
Later, it also plans to integrate cab aggregators Ola and Uber, taxis and auto rickshaws, into the ticketing system.
The chief minister launched the mobile metro ticketing product 'Skiiip Q' that will help commuters to book their journey tickets at their own convenience through a QR code generated on the mobile phone.
The facility is available on the mobile applications including Paytm and Ridlr and will soon be introduced in the Mumbai metro app.
