Promptly responding to a complaint by civic activist V. Santhanam that called attention to a huge crack on the MIT Road Over Bridge in Chromepet, the Highways Department are carrying out the necessary repair work. The 12-year old bridge which connects GST Road with many neighbourhoods in Chromepet and Chitlapakkam had developed a crack in one of its joints as the sand packing and concrete structure had given way. The gap is filled with iron and concrete mixture and the work is expected to be completed in two days. “We express our profound thanks to the Highways officials for their prompt action. After this, the bridge needs periodical maintenance work,” says Santhanam added.
A highways official said, “As soon as we received the complaint, we got a team of officials to inspect the damage. The crack was a minor one. As far as the question of maintenance is concerned, the bridge was repaired and repainted two years ago.”
