With the CPI-ML Maoists reportedly hatching a conspiracy to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was revealed by Pune police, vigil has been intensified on Naxalite sympathisers and the surrendered extremists in Andhra Pradesh and the neighbouring States.
With the Maharashtra police seizing some letters, purportedly written by some Maoists, and unearthing the conspiracy, the intelligence sleuths reportedly sounded alert and asked the police to step up vigil.
Police officers were instructed to track the movements of the militants in the agency areas in Andhra Pradesh-Telangana and Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) and other Naxalite-affected States.
Intelligence police were asked to check the antecedents of the surrendered Maoists, activists of various civil rights organisations and the Naxalite informers, particularly those operating in tribal areas.
Major blow
The CPI-ML Maoists received a major blow in Ramaguda exchange of fire in which 31 Naxalites were killed in 2016 and 42 extremists were shot dead in Gadchiroli district, last year. In retaliation, Maoists shot dead 24 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Sukuma district of Chhattisgarh in April 2017.
The police were asked to step up security for the Naxal targets, especially the public representatives, and asked them not to go into the villages without giving prior intimation to the police.
