Belagavi: Mugut Khan Hubballi, popularly known as
MK Hubballi, was upgraded to a town panchayat last year. It has a population of over 20,000 and is located 28km from Belagavi city. The town is also connected to National Highway 4.
Despite this, there is no
government high school here, forcing poor parents to either discontinue the education of their wards or send them to a relative’s place where they have the facility.
MK Hubballi has two government primary schools — one for boys and the other for girls — and a private school. After completing primary education, students have the option of two high schools — one aided and another unaided. While middle and upper-class families can afford these private high schools, the poor ones are made to suffer.
Social activist Doddappa Ganachari said that there has been a demand for a government high school in MK Hubballi for the past several years. “Our demand is that poor students should get government facilities as they cannot afford education in private schools. There are over 1,000 students in primary schools in MK Hubballi,” he said.
Mahantesh Dodagoudar, MLA, Kittur, said that he will visit MK Hubballi to collect details on the issue.
“A committee involving officials will prepare a report and submit it to the government. No village will be deprived of high schools in my constituency during my tenure,” he said.
A H Chandrappa, deputy director of public instructions, said that higher authorities have taken the decision of establishing a government high school in MK Hubballi. “I will seek information from the block education officer about the requirement and will recommend the same,” the official said. After being upgraded as a town panchayat last year, MK Hubballi is yet to have an office of the town panchayat too.
