IIT Kanpur is expected to announce the results for this year’s JEE Advanced examinations on Sunday. Examination scores as well as all-India rankings will be released on the same day.

As many as 11,279 seats, an increase of 291 seats from 2017, are being offered at 23 IITs across the country this year. Around 1,64,822 candidates appeared for the examination across seven IIT zones on May 20. The maximum number of from the IIT Madras zone (38,231), followed by IIT Delhi with 31,884, IIT Bombay with 28,813, IIT Kanpur with 20,428, IIT Kharagpur with 19,145, IIT Roorkee with 14,414 and IIT Guwahati with 11,907.

The website of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority-2018 (jossa.nic.in) was launched on Wednesday, said JEE chairman Professor Shalabh in a statement. The registration and choice filling for the academic programme under the authority would begin on June 15, he added. Candidates who appeared for the Architecture Aptitude Test can fill their choice starting June 18, after the declaration of results.

As in previous years, supernumerary seats will be created to accommodate foreign candidates and defence service candidates who clear the JEE Advanced 2018. Only two such candidates will be admitted to an IIT.

For the first time, 800 supernumerary seats have been created specifically for female candidates. It is being done to improve gender balance at IITs in keeping with directives from the ministry of human resources.

As per provisions, the total supernumerary seats created cannot exceed 10% of the total seats being offered in the IITs. The counseling will begin on June 15 at the same time as registrations.

Eligible candidates can also apply using their JEE Main or JEE Advanced details for admission to 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 GFTIs.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority will announce the first seat allotment on June 27. To help candidates understand the counselling process, there will be two mock allotments on June 19 and 24. Candidates can rectify their choices until June 25, which is also the last date for registration. The final allotment for the seventh round will be announced on July 18.
