Talks to end the stand off between a section of the workers and the management of spice processing unit Synthite Industries did not make any headway on Thursday.
Industries Minister A.C. Moideen had stepped in to mediate on Wednesday after talks between the management and workers under the aegis of Labour Commissioner A. Alexander had failed to bring about reconciliation. Managing Director of Synthite Industries Viju Jacob and K.S. Arun Kumar of Synthite Employees’ Union, CITU, were among those who took part in the talks.
The talks will continue.
The company management announced on Tuesday that the spice processing unit was being shut temporarily on account of the action by the workers.
A communication issued earlier by the spices processing company had claimed that the protesting workers had blocked and assaulted the workers who wanted to join duty on night shift. However, the Synthite Employees’ Union, CITU, claimed that the management had not honoured the agreement reached with the union early in May.
